Repeat YSCC AOTW winner and a USCAA golfer of the Week

(YSCC) -- We have a repeat winner of the YSCC AOTW and a second YSCC golfer takes home USCAA Golfer of the Week award.

GOLF - Evan Kordalski, University of Maine at Augusta

Evan becomes the second YSCC golfer to take home the USCAA Golfer of the Week award. Evan placed first in the UMA invitational shooting an 83 and tied for first in the SMCC invitational shooting another 83 over the weekend.

WOMEN'S SOCCER - Josie Griffin, Me.-Machias
(Junior, CB - Slidell, LA, 5)

Griffin had a hat-trick 9/30 vs Vermont Tech - Defensive player who contributed to 3 consecutive shutouts.

MEN'S SOCCER - Haidar Al-Freihy, Me.-Machias
(Senior, F - Gray, ME, 11)

Al-Freihy takes home his second YSCC AOTW award while scoring 6 Goals on 9 Shots and 2 Assists vs. Hampshire

WOMEN'S X-COUNTRY - Joce Turinetti, Vermont Technical College
(Freshman, XC - Randolph Vermont)

Joce is running her first year in Cross Country. She has never done a sport. This year Joce has shown dedication and commitment to her team by always showing up for her practices and racing her best in all her meets. Her motivation to succeed shows in her efforts to train and race. This week Joce ran against Middlebury College and other Colleges from Vermont in the Vermont State College Meet. She finished her 5K race in 24:29 which is a 5-minute improvement over her 29:26 performance on the same course two weeks ago. She is an example of hard work and training.

MEN'S X-COUNTRY - Mathew Kelly, Vermont Technical College
(Freshman, XC - Fort Kent Maine)

Mathew Kelly is a great example of hard work and dedication as a student and Athlete. Matt has fulfilled all the workouts given to him and is making great improvements as the top runner on our XC team. Saturday Matt raced at the Vermont State college meet in Middlebury Vermont. He finished his 8K race in 32:23 which is 4 minutes faster than his previous race on the same course 2 weeks ago. He is a natural leader and great example to his teammates.

BASEBALL - Amos Herrin, Southern Maine CC
(Jr., IF/P - Wilton, Maine, 24)

Herrin recorded 13 strikeouts in a complete game win against Great Bay CC in the first game of a YSCC doubleheader on Sunday, Oct. 1. He allowed 0 earned runs and just five hits to notch his second victory of the season. Herrin leads the conference in both strikeouts (31) and ERA (1.50).

VOLLEYBALL - Shelby Skofiled, Great Bay C.C.
(Sr, RS - Milton, NH, 5)

It is safe to say that after the close of this past weekend's matches, Shelby Skofield, a GBCC senior from Milton, NH, brings extreme tenacity to the court. She led her team in 9 kills between the two matches on Sunday, October 1st. As a Right Side hitter, it is a great feat to play this position let alone have the highest kill percentage. She also earned four assists and eight digs. She was consistent in serving and was notably the only player on the team to serve both matches with no errors. Not only did Shelby have a tremendous performance, but she also continues to maintain a resilient and infectious attitude on and off the court. Shelby is a true leader and an astounding student-athlete.
