CMCC honors Coach Dave Gonyea with naming of basketball court

(YSCC) - Central Maine Community College honored Mustangs Men's Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Dave Gonya Thursday, naming the basketball court at Kirk Hall, the Dave Gonyea Court.
Dave has been an integral part of the Yankee Small College Conference over his years at CMCC.

YSCC President and Southern Maine Community College AD Matt Richards had high praise for Gonyea.

"Dave Gonyea has had an exemplary 27 years of service to the Central Maine Community, the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) and the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. The court's dedication within Kirk Hall at CMCC is very fitting and a deserving tribute for Dave. Congratulations from the YSCC."

Paul Hogan, NHTI Men's Basketball Coach, said, "I can't think of anyone more deserving (of this honor). You are Central Maine. All the things you have done over the years, have created a great situation for student/athletes. You are the architect of Central Maine and the Mustangs. Congratulations."

Here are just a few of Gonyea's accomplishments: 
• Men's basketball head coach from 1993 to the present
• Holds 514-234 record over 26 seasons
• New England Coach of the Year 1996-97
• NSCAA Athletic Director of the Year 1998-99 and 2000-01
• USCAA Athletic Director of the Year 2002
• MSCC Coach of the Year 1998-99, 1999-00, 2000-01, 2001-02, & 2002-03
• Yankee Conference Coach of the Year 2007-08, 2013-14, 2015-16
• Inducted into the USCAA Hall of Fame in 2017
• Under Dave's leadership, the Mustangs have won nine league championships, three New England championships, participated in 12 NSCAA/USCAA national championship tournaments, and won the prestigious USCAA national championship in 2002.
• In 2012, he led the Mustangs to a Yankee Conference record of 18-0, a Yankee Conference championship, and a trip to the USCAA National Tournament. He has coached 17 All-Americans and numerous All-Conference players.

The YSCC would like to congratulate Coach Gonyea for a well-deserved honor.
