YSCC Cancels Winter Sports Conference Sponsored Competition and Championships

YSCC Cancels Winter Sports Conference Sponsored Competition and Championships

(YSCC) - Over the past six months, the YSCC Athletic Directors have been working diligently in the development of COVID-19 safety protocols to be established for a return to athletic competition sponsored by the conference. During a recent business meeting of the YSCC Athletic Directors, there was discussion over further developments of institutional changes as well as changes in local and state guidelines of the 10 member institutions spanning across five northeastern states. It was determined that a return of conference sponsored winter sports season would not be feasible to conduct.

Due to these developments, the YSCC has unanimously voted to cancel conference sponsored competition and championships for men's and women's basketball for the 2020-21 academic year. Each YSCC member institution may plan for student-athlete training, conditioning opportunities, and non-conference competition, consistent with federal and state public health recommendations and institutional guidelines.

The YSCC will continue to evaluate the scope of the pandemic regarding a determination on the status of conference sponsored spring sport competition and championships. All options will be thoroughly evaluated and an informed decision will be made based on both federal and state health and safety recommendations as well as institutional guidelines at that time.

The Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) is a USCAA Division II association made up of 10 member institutions across the New England and New York State region. Founded in 2005, the YSCC annually sponsors and administers 11 championships.
