SeaWolves Baseball Caps 4-0 Season Sweep of CMCC

AUBURN, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team swept the Mustangs of Central Maine Community College (CMCC) in more Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) doubleheader action on Thursday, Sept. 21.

Game 1: W, 7-1 | Box Score

Making his first start of the year was junior Amos Herrin (Wilton, Maine) and it was a gem. The right-hander threw a complete seven innings and struck out nine. Herrin worked in and out of trouble in the first inning, allowing three hits and one run. After that it was lights out, not allowing a runner to reach second base.

The SeaWolves did their damage in their first at-bats pushing three across on RBI-singles by junior Carter Chabot(Lewiston, Maine) and sophomore Cody Bryant (Somersworth, N.H.). In the third inning, junior Sean Adams(Lebanon, Maine) hit his conference-leading third home run and 11th RBI of the season.

SMCC would extend its lead 7-1 in the fifth by way of the long ball when both junior Caleb Chambers (Lebanon, Maine) and sophomore Nathaniel Cyr (Freeport, Maine) added to the home run total.

Herrin would earn the win, as CMCC's Damien St. Pierre suffered the loss.

Game 2: W, 9-5 | Box Score

First-year James Parisi (Rockport, Mass.) earned the start in game two, giving the SeaWolves three innings before first-year Dylan Francoeur (Westbrook, Maine) came on in relief to close the door.

The Mustangs jumped on the board early getting ahead 2-0 in the first. SMCC claimed a 5-2 lead scoring three runs on two hits in the second inning, and two runs on one hit in the third.

CMCC would eventually tie the ballgame in the fourth inning on an RBI-single by Jordi Valls. It wasn't until the seventh inning that the SeaWolves opened it up with four runs; Herrin and Francoeur both with two-RBI singles.

Francoeur earned his second win of the season; CMCC's Tanner Wheeler suffered the loss.

In a post-game interview, Head Coach Jordan Yanni stated, "We came ready to play in game one, backed by an outstanding pitching performance by Amos. In the second game, the team atmosphere is what helped us prevail and push through adversity to get the win in a well fought game by CMCC."

The SeaWolves capped a 4-0 season sweep of the Mustangs and improve to 6-2 in conference play. CMCC ranks fourth in the YSCC standings owning a 1-7 record.

On deck are the 4-3 Lynx of New Hampshire Technical Institute, who topped the SeaWolves in their first meeting a week ago. SMCC will travel to Concord, N.H. on Saturday, Sept. 23 looking for revenge.
