Herrin Shines In Doubleheader Split With Waubonsee CC

RUSSMATT CENTRAL FLORIDA INVITATIONAL—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team split in its 2018 spring opener and first play date of the Russmatt Central Florida Invitational vs. Waubonsee Community College (Ill.) on Saturday, Mar. 10.

Game 1: L, 4-2
In the first of the double dip, the SeaWolves mustered two hits coming from junior Nathaniel Cyr (Freeport, Maine) in the fifth inning and first-year Dylan Francoeur (Westbrook, Maine) in the seventh.  Francoeur and sophomore Cody Bryant (Somersworth, N.H.) collected RBIs for the SeaWolves in support of starter Devin Sawyer (Ayer, Mass.) who tossed 5.1 innings of two-run baseball. First-year James Parisi (Rockport, Maine) threw 33 pitches in a relief appearance.

Game 2: W, 5-0
SMCC posted five runs spread among four innings on seven hits to avenge an uninspired offensive showing in game one. Bryant and Francoeur picked up their second RBIs of the day as Cyr and first-year Devin Butler also contributed with run scoring knocks.

The real story was junior Amos Herrin (Wilton, Maine) who debuted his spring with a complete game win using a brief 90 pitches to retire 11 by way of strikeout.

The SeaWolves return to action Sunday, Mar. 11 in a single nine-inning game with Schenectady County Community College (N.Y.) at 9 a.m. followed by a seven-inning bout with Brookdale Community College (N.J.) at 12:30 p.m.
