Mustangs Spoil SeaWolves’ Home Opener In Extras

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team fell to the Mustangs from Central Maine Community College (CMCC) 6-3 in 10 innings at Graves Athletic Field on Saturday, Mar. 31.

First-year Dylan Francoeur (Westbrook, Maine) took the hill for the SeaWolves to begin their home slate, this considered a non-conference game. The right-hander threw five complete innings and allowed two earned runs on just three hits.

Opposite was Damien St. Pierre who lasted 4.0 innings and struck out three. Noah Salmons provided relief going 3.1 innings followed by Alex Biron who pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless baseball.

Junior Sean Adams (Lebanon, Maine) opened scoring for SMCC punching a line drive home run to dead center to give the home team a 1-0 lead. CMCC pushed two across in the third and tacked on another in the fourth.

SMCC evened the score when junior Amos Herrin (Wilton, Maine) came around to score to make it 3-3 in the bottom half of the eighth.

The Mustangs scored the go-ahead run in the tenth on a single by Biron and made it 6-3 on an extra-base hit later in the inning.

First-year Devin Sawyer (Ayer, Mass.) suffered the loss while Biron recorded the win.

SMCC takes the diamond again on Wednesday, April 4 when the SeaWolves host Northern Essex Community College in a 9-inning non-conference game. First-pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. LIVE STATS: http://www.gosmccseawolves.com/sports/bsb/2017-18/boxscores/20180404_1v42.xml
