SeaWolves Walk Off, Sweep Warriors At Home

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team swept the Warriors from Massasoit Community College in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday, Apr. 8.

Game 1: W, 17-2 (5 innings)
First-year James Parisi (Rockport, Mass.) started on the hill for the SeaWolves in game one and made easy work of the Warrior hitters allowing two runs over 4.0 innings.

SMCC went right to work posting 11 runs in the first frame on four hits and two errors by the opposition. The SeaWolves tacked on four more in their next at-bats, RBIs delivered by sophomore Evan Leveroni (Sandown, N.H.) and Timothy Greenlaw (Windham, Maine).

Massasoit made their mark on the scoreboard in the third inning when Luke Lewando blasted a two-run shot to right field. The SeaWolves answered with two of their own in the bottom-half of the inning to maintain a 15-run advantage.

Junior captain Nathaniel Cyr (Freeport, Maine) came on in relief and pitched a perfect fifth inning to safeguard Parisi's third win of the season. Massasoit's Nick Steele suffered the loss.

The SeaWolves collected eight hits as six different players recorded RBIs—a game high three batted-in courtesy of Greenlaw.

Game 2: W, 8-7 (8 innings)
Junior Amos Herrin (Wilton, Maine) was trusted with the start in part-two, logging his fourth complete game of the season. The right-hander struck out a quiet 12 batters, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits.

The Warriors jumped ahead two runs in the first and added another in the third before first-year Devin Butler (Standish, Maine) lined a single to center to cut the deficit to one.

SMCC evened the score at 3-3 on a base knock by sophomore Cody Bryant (Somersworth, N.H.) with two outs in the fourth. Massasoit was able to figure out Herrin in the top-half of the seven to push across four.

In a do or die trailing 7-3, the SeaWolves clawed their way back to match the Warriors with four runs on five hits to force extras. Herrin shut the door on Massasoit in the eighth inning before SMCC scored Bryant from third to walk off 8-7 on a throwing error by the Warrior catcher.

Bryant finished the second game 3-4 at the dish with an RBI and three runs scored.
