SeaWolves Take Three From NHTI, Improve To 4-0 YSCC

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team swept the Lynx from NHTI in a two-day, three-game series on Friday, Apr 13 and Saturday, Apr. 14 outscoring the opponent 32-5.

Game 1: W, 15-4 (7 innings)
Sophomore Evan Leveroni (Sandown, N.H.) made his second pitching appearance and first start of the season in the scheduled nine-inning ball game on Friday, Apr. 13. Leveroni made his way through four complete innings to allow only two earned runs. He struck out six before junior Nathaniel Cyr (Freeport, Maine) came on in relief to go 3.0 strong.

The SeaWolves collected 13 hits with multi-hit performances from junior Amos Herrin (Wilton, Maine), first-year Ian Westphal (Portland, Maine), sophomore Cody Bryant (Somersworth, N.H.), and Cyr.

The SMCC pitching staff spread out 10 hits by the opposition to minimize the damage to just four runs. The SeaWolves capitalized on fielding miscues by the Lynx to lead by 11 and cut the game short in the seventh. Leveroni earned his first win as a SeaWolf as NHTI's Adam Young suffered the loss.

Game 2: W, 6-0
Herrin was handed the ball in first game of the twin bill on Saturday, Apr. 14 and was magnificent conceding a walk in the fourth inning and a single to break up hi no-hit bid in the sixth. Herrin recorded 10 punch-outs to improve on his league-leading 85 Ks.

The SMCC offense didn't waste any time scoring four runs in the first frame on three hits and one error—junior Carter Chabot (Lewiston, Maine), Cyr, Westphal, and Bryant all with RBIs.

Getting one in the fourth and another in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by first-year Devin Butler (Standish, Maine), the SeaWolves extended their lead to 6-0. The Lynx went three-up and three-down in the seventh to award Herrin his Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC)-best sixth win of the season, NHTI's Tyler Sargent with the loss.

Game 3: (Apr. 14): W, 11-1 (6 innings)
First-year James Parisi (Rockport, Mass.) took the hill in the final game and went the distance to allow just one earned run over four hits. The lefty struck out eight in 6.1 innings of work on his way to his fourth win of his rookie campaign.

The SeaWolves pushed across five in the second inning with help from back-to-back doubles by Butler and Herrin. The Lynx answered with one in the next half-inning but SMCC regained its momentum with run-scoring hits by Leveroni and again by Butler for his third RBI of game.

The SeaWolves piled it on to go ahead 9-1 in the fourth inning before Bryant put the home team up 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth on a single that drove in two.
