Cyr The Hero In SeaWolves’ Walk-Off Victory

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team stole one from Central Maine Community College (CMCC) in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) nine-inning ballgame on Tuesday, Apr. 24 in dramatic fashion 11-10.

First-year Ian Westphal (Portland, Maine) made his first career start on the bump and went four innings to allow six runs, three earned, on six hits. The submariner walked four and struck out one before junior Nathaniel Cyr(Freeport, Maine) came on in relief.

The SeaWolves flexed their muscles for six runs in the first frame on four hits and three miscues by the Mustang defense. Then, CMCC came storming back to score 10 unanswered runs to take a four-run advantage into the bottom of the ninth.

Sophomore Cody Bryant (Somersworth, N.H.) led off the inning with a free pass and Devin Butler (Standish, Maine) followed with a base knock. With one out, slugger Sean Adams (Lebanon, Maine) parked a double to center field to score Bryant. It was "next man up" and first-year Timothy Greenlaw (Windham, Maine) doubled to drive in two more.

Trailing by one run with runners on first and third, Cyr pulled a double down the left field line to score both in walk-off fashion to lift the home team to an 11-10 YSCC win. Cyr also earned the victory as the pitcher; CMCC's Alex Biron suffered the loss.

The SeaWolves remain perfect sporting an 8-0 mark against conference opponents, 26-12 overall. CMCC slips to 3-5 in league action, 10-19 overall.

The rematch is scheduled for Thursday, Apr. 26 in South Portland beginning at 3:30 p.m. LIVE STATS: http://www.gosmccseawolves.com/sports/bsb/2017-18/boxscores/20180426_9ep9.xml
