SMCC wins YSCC Baseball Championship

REPLAY: SMCC vs CMCC Championship Game

OLD ORCHARD BEACH (YSCC) — The Central Maine Community College Mustangs started fast and never let up in the opening game of the 2018 YSCC Baseball Championships.

The #3 ranked Mustangs opened the 2018 tournament against the #2 ranked NHTI Lynx.

Eric Hoogterp (So, Old Town, ME) started things off for CMCC with a 2-run RBI triple to deep center.

Five hits later, Dalton Wing (Fr, Lewiston, ME) singled to left, driving in two to give CMCC a 10-0 lead after 1.

Matthew Tremble (So, Auburn, IN) got things going in the 4th for the Mustangs, plating 2 with an RBI single to left. Tremble had a massive game for the Mustangs, going 4 for 4, 6 RBI and scored 5 runs.

Hoogterp was right in the middle of it as well in the 4th inning, singling to left and driving in two more.

Hoogterp finished the game going 4 for 5 with 5 RBI and a run scored.

After the dust settled, CMCC moved on to the championship game with a 20-2 win over the Lynx.

CMCC will face the winner of SMCC/GBCC in the championship game

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine (SMCC) — Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletics will host the 2018 Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) baseball playoffs, this year at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach, 14 Emerson Cummings Blvd.

The playoff tournament will be held on Thursday, May 3 with a rain date of Saturday, May 5. The conference championship will run as a single elimination, three-game tournament as follows:

CMCC 20 NHTI 2  3:30 p.m.
On-Field Presentation of Conference Awards 5:30 p.m.
SMCC 5 GBCC 0 6:00 p.m.
Championship Game - SMCC v CMCC 8:30 p.m.

 

All games are scheduled as seven innings—seedings to be released. The awards presentation will include All-Conference award winners, the 2018 Player of the Year, and Coach of the Year.

All spectators will be charged an entry fee of $5. SMCC students and faculty are free with a SMCC ID. Concessions will be available for purchase.
