SMCC to Host YSCC Baseball Championships in Old Orchard Beach, Maine

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine (YSCC) - On Saturday, May 6th, 2023, Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) is set to host the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Baseball Championships at The Ballpark, Old Orchard Beach, Maine.

UPDATE 5:30AM Saturday: The first-round game against Great Bay and SMCC has been canceled. The #1 ranked Seawolves will receive a first-round bye and move on to the Championship game. 

Tournament Schedule

10:30am GM1 Semi-Final CANCELED

12:45-1pm Baseball Awards Ceremony (on the field)

1:30pm GM2 Semi-Final #3 NHTI vs #2 CMCC

4pm GM3 Championship Game (winner of GM1 vs GM2)

Higher Seed will take first base dugout and be the home team on the scoreboard.

#1 Southern Maine CC Seawolves (8-1) vs #4 Great Bay CC Herons (1-8) - CANCELED

Southern Maine dominated the regular season series against Great Bay, having swept the season series. Do not count Great Bay out just yet, as they are coming off their top pitcher winning a YSCC and USCAA Player of the Week. The first pitch is at 10:30am.

#2 Central Maine CC Mustangs (5-4) vs #3 NHTI Lynx (4-5)

Central Maine had a convincing record against NHTI this season, but the Lynx did steal a game in the regular season. In this nine-inning game, the winner advances so be on the lookout for a solid contest.

 

Admission/Streaming Information

  • All games will be streamed on the Yankee Small College Conference Network. Please direct families and others to the conference site to view the tournament games and award ceremonies. There will be a pay-per-view fee of $7.00 for this service. That fee will cover all games and award ceremonies that weekend.
  • Admission fee ($7.00) will be charged at the gate to enter the facility. This fee will be good for the entire tournament for all fans.

 

Tournament Information

  • The Ballpark will be open for 9am on Saturday morning. GM1 teams will have access to their dugouts, outfield for long toss, bullpen for pitchers and batting cages underneath the stands on their side of the field. No infield will be taken for any of the tournament games.
  • All games during the tournament are 9 innings with USCAA baseball rules to apply.
  • Awards Ceremony: All teams are asked to be on the field after the completion of GM1 for the awards ceremony. Recognition of All Conference, Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, and Coach of the Year will be presented at that time.
  • At the conclusion of the championship game, both teams will be asked to take the field for the presentation of tournament awards.
  • There will be a food truck present during the day.
