SeaWolves Bounce Back With YSCC Win At Unity

UNITY, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team took care of business at Unity College defeating the Rams by a score of 76-59 on Wednesday, Nov. 15.

The SeaWolves scored 38 in each half and limited Unity to its lowest point total this season. SMCC ranks second among conference opponents in points-allowed averaging a stingy 59.1 per spanning seven games.

Junior co-captain Dylan Silvestri (Pelham, N.H.) led all scorers in the game with 24 on his way to his third double-double of the season, pulling down 14 rebounds, eight offensive. First-year Willie Brown (Willimantic, Conn.) continued his three-game scoring streak of 10 or more with 13 in 15 minutes of work. Sophomore co-captain Anderson Kavutse (Westbrook, Maine) tallied 10 more rebounds to improve on his 6.9 reb/g.

Unity's Adam Merrill led his team with 14 points followed by Hunter Engel with 10.

Following the game, Assistant Coach AJ Burton stated, "Facing some adversity in the first half with some guys in foul trouble, our young nucleus was able to handle a challenging environment on the road and maintain separation. Overall, it was a great experience for some to step up when we needed them the most. It's always a good thing to come away with a result against a team like Unity where they always play with maximum effort under Coach Witts."

SMCC improves to 2-0 in Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) play, 6-1 overall. Unity stands 1-3 overall.

The action continues when the SeaWolves travel to Vermont Technical College on Saturday, Nov. 18 where SMCC is 2-3 in its previous five meetings in Randolph, Vt. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
