NHTI Edge Vermont Tech, 93-86

RANDOLPH, Vt. – The NHTI men's basketball team escaped with a 93-86 victory in a Yankee Small College Conference matchup at Vermont Tech. The Lynx remain unbeaten in conference play improving to 7-1 overall and 6-0 in the YSCC. Vermont Tech. falls to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

The Knights trailed for most of the first half before going on a 14-4 run to close out the first frame up 40-34. Vermont Tech sophomore Daniel Gill (Charlotte, N.C.) led the first half charge with 12 points half of which came in the run to finish the half. Gill finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Knights.

The Lynx bounced back in the second half and tied the game at 48 when Jaevan Dobbins (Bethlehem, Pa.) blocked a Gill layup and sprinted cross court for a fast break layup of his own. The next five minutes saw five lead changes before NHTI took control and pulled away. NHTI led by as many as 11 points in the second half.

NHTI's J'Quay Thurmond (Monticello, Ga.) led all scorers with 23 points and added nine rebounds. Freshman Deric Jackson (Salisbury, Md.) scored 20 points with seven rebounds for the Lynx.

Senior Cameron Carter (Atlanta, Ga.) led the Knights with 22 points adding six rebounds, three assists, and a block.

NHTI heads to South Portland, Maine to take on the Seawolves in a YSCC matchup Thursday at 6:00 p.m. Vermont Tech hosts YSCC foe Unity Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
