Knights Outlast SeaWolves in the Tale of Two Halves

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team was defeated 79-67 by the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) Knights in a non-conference game, and the first of the second semester on Saturday, Jan. 6.

The SeaWolves held the two-point lead at the half 40-38, shooting 43.2 percent from the field and out-rebounding the opposition 20-17.

The Knights came out of the locker room on a 10-2 run to get up six with 17:22 remaining. SMCC responded with back-to-back buckets before CCRI strung together another 17-2 run with time ticking away. The SeaWolves couldn't find the answer for Andrew Ferguson who scored all of his 15 points by way of five three pointers in the second half.

Junior co-captain Dylan Silvestri (Pelham, N.H.) netted 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 23 minutes of work. First-year Gregory Trinidad (Lawrence, Mass.) matched a season-high 17 points, adding six rebounds and four steals to his stat line. 

Ferguson and Dan Grzych combined for nine three-pointers as part of CCRI's 13-31 (41.9 percent) from downtown. Josh Williams led the Knights with a game high 25 points and seven rebounds.

SMCC slips to 9-7 overall as CCRI picks up its fifth win of the season.

The SeaWolves get back to Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) play on Wednesday, Jan. 10 when they go for the season sweep against the University of Maine at Machias. Tip off from The HUB is scheduled for 5 p.m. WATCH LIVE on SeaWolves TV.
