SeaWolves Cast Away Clippers

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team broke a four-game spell with a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) win over the University of Maine at Machias Clippers 104-70 at The HUB on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

SMCC broke the 100-point mark for the third time this season posting 52 points in both halves to a team that allows the second-most points among YSCC teams. SMCC shot 53.3 percent from the floor and assisted on 25 of 40 buckets. The SeaWolves capitalized on points off turnovers with 36 and controlled the paint with 50 points from close range.

The Pelham Connection combined for 47 points as captain Dylan Silvestri (Pelham, N.H.) matched a season-high 25 and junior Ryan Cloutier (Pelham, N.H.) added 22 on 10-16 shooting and five steals. First-year Oumar Keita(Bridgeport, Conn.) was a key contributor off the bench with frenetic energy and 14 points on 5-6 from the field and 4-4 from the stripe.

Alexander Blake led Machias with 21 points spanning 28 minutes; big man Travonne Thompson collected 13 rebounds to continue to lead the conference on the glass.

SMCC eclipsed the 10 win mark and improves to 6-3 in conference play. Machias stands fifth in the YSCC standings at 5-3, 6-11 overall.

The action continues when the SeaWolves host the 6-11 Bobcats from Paul Smith's College in another YSCC clash on Friday, Jan. 12. SMCC looks to complete the season sweep, besting the Bobcats by a 36-point margin on the road in November. Tip off at The HUB is slated for 8 p.m. Tune in to SeaWolves LIVE TV.
