SeaWolves Tune Mechanics On The Road 82-65

MEDIA, Pa.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team pushed its winning streak to four besting the Williamson Mechanics 82-65 in Pennsylvania on Saturday, Jan. 20.

The SeaWolves jumped out to an early 25-9 lead to begin the game and went on to outscore their opponent 40-28 through the first 20 minutes of action. First-year Gregory Trinidad (Lawrence, Mass.) and junior Ryan Cloutier(Pelham, N.H.) matched Williamson's first-half total with a combined 28.

Digging in to get stops on the defensive end and executing offensively, SMCC never let down only to allow the Mechanics to close their deficit to five. Williamson's Darnell Brown scored 18 of his 27 points in the second but the SeaWolves remained constant with another 42 points to cap the 17-point victory.

This Trinidad's second consecutive game with 26 points, the six-foot guard has totaled 13 three-pointers on 19 of 32 from the floor in this stretch. Co-captain Dylan Silvestri (Pelham, N.H.) played his way to his ninth double-double of the season posting 13 points and 18 rebounds, and Cloutier, the most efficient of them all, flushed 22 points on 80 percent shooting and 4-6 from downtown.

"We had a great opening to the game with efficient offense, defensively controlling the glass," said Head Coach Matt Richards post-game. "This leading us to a complete game effort—something we had to have to get the win. Coach Michael's teams are always very disciplined and play extremely hard. Getting the result today was a statement for our team, a team that is starting to play its best basketball at the right time of the season."

SMCC improves to 13-7 overall while Williamson falls to 8-10.

The SeaWolves return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 24 when they welcome the Moose from the University of Maine at Augusta in part two of the Yankee Small College Conference series this season. Tip off at The HUB is set for 8 p.m. Tune into SeaWolves TV to watch live.
