UMA's Simpson-Bragg scores 1000th point

WATERVILLE, Maine (UMA) – The Thomas College men's basketball team recorded 17 threes in a 108-82 victory over the University of Maine at Augusta in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday night at Larry Mahaney Gym.

The Moose looked to keep pace with the Terriers in the opening minutes of the first half as their defense forced early turnovers.  The Thomas offense got hot throughout the half as the team knocked down 11-of-20 shots behind the arch to take a 62-35 lead at the break.

Sophomore guard Zach Mackinnon (Kennebunk, Maine) converted on five threes for 15 points to lead the team.  Freshman Angel Gonzalez (Orlando, Fla.) followed with a solid 5-of-8 for 14 points in the frame.  Dustin Simpson-Bragg added 15 points for the Moose on 6-of-10 shooting.

Throughout the second half both teams evenly traded points as the Terriers went deep into their bench.  Freshman Jahfar-I France (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) provided a spark with 13 points in the half.  Jordan Holmes also added all ten of his points in the second for the Moose.  Junior, Dustin Simpson-Bragg netted his 1,000th career point on a baseline slam midway through the second half but unfortunately the first half deficit was too much for the Moose and Thomas cruised to a 108-82 final score.

The Terriers were led by Angel Gonzalez with 19 points, five rebounds, and five assists while Mackinnon added 18 points, four rebounds, and four assists.  Senior John Morgan (Sanford, Maine) and France each contributed with 13 points.

Simpson-Bragg finished with 19 points, three boards, and three assists while Brown netted 14 points while dishing out three assists for the Moose.  Quinn Mitchell II and Holmes each reached double figures with ten points in the effort.
