Wolves Defend The HUB On Hagerman Alumni Day

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team attained the 100-point total for the sixth time this season in a dominant 107-73 win over the Fighting Saints from the College of St. Joseph (Vt.) on Timothy D. Hagerman Alumni Day on Saturday, Feb. 3.

Both teams traded buckets in the early stages until SMCC used a 15-0 run to gain separation in front of a buzzing crowd at The HUB. The SeaWolves outscored their opponent by a 22-point margin in the first half and shot near 58.0 percent in the second to win the last 20 minutes.

Sophomore Timothy Dixon (Plainville, Conn.) scored a season-high 23 points on his way to his first SeaWolf of the Game performance. Dixon was an efficient 9-11 from the floor through 24 minutes, his only misses coming from beyond the arc.

Junior captain Dylan Silvestri (Pelham, N.H.) followed suite with 23 points of his own, adding 13 rebounds. The six-foot three-inch center tallied his 120th offensive rebound of the season, a statistic he leads all United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division I and Division II players.

First-year point guard Jacobee Burpee (Manchester, N.H.) contributed to the SeaWolves' 53.2 percent shooting making 4-4 from the field to notch solid 14 points.

Both teams attempted exactly 79 shots, however the difference made was 14 and those baskets being high-percentage points in the paint for SMCC.

The Fighting Saints were led by Trent Torain and Tyreke Woodard both going for 12 points.

SMCC improves to 16-8 overall with just two regular season games to go. CSJ falls to 2-17 on the season.

The SeaWolves will look to avenge a home loss to Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Central Maine Community College in part two of the "best small college basketball rivalry in Maine" on Wednesday, Feb. 7. Tip off in Auburn is scheduled for 8 p.m.
