Men’s Basketball Keeps Flawless Road Record With Result At Williamson

MEDIA, Penn.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team took home a 68-66 road victory against United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) opponent Williamson College of the Trades on Sunday, Dec. 15.

SMCC was dominant out of the tip shooting 43.8 percent from beyond the arc in the first half to lead at the break by a 9-point margin. The Williamson Mechanics outscored the SeaWolves by seven in the second half, but the road team held true to its defensive principles to withstand a late three-point barrage.

Sophomore captain Ian Regan (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) locked down his first double-double of the season with 16 points on 4-7 from three, and 10 rebounds. First-year Pedro Fonseca (Portland, Maine) totaled double figures for the eighth time this year with 15 in 33 minutes of action.

Three Williamson starters combined for 47 of the team's 66 points. Vontangoe Donzo finished one block shy of a triple-double and Kyle Morgan recorded 10 assists.

The SeaWolves made 11 free throws at an 84.6 percent clip and outrebounded the opposition by 18.

In a post-game interview, Associate Head Coach AJ Burton reflected, "After coming off a tough loss earlier in the week, it was great seeing our guys regroup and bounce back with a big road win down at Williamson. Right from the tip, we set the tone on the defensive end making it hard for Williamson to get any in-rhythm shots. Offensively, we did a great job executing our game plan, making the right plays when needed. It was a complete team effort that will lead us into our final game before break."

The SeaWolves get to 10 wins and improve on their road warrior status at 6-0. Williamson slips to 6-8 overall.

SMCC will finish the semester with a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) home date against the Bobcats from Paul Smith's College on Wednesday, Dec. 18. Tip-off from The HUB has been rescheduled to 6 p.m. WATCH on Facebook LIVE or follow the GAME CAST.
