NHTI men 3-peat with electrifying double-overtime win against Vermont Tech, 110-109

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (NHTI/YSCC) -- The Lynx Men's Basketball Team was victorious on Sunday, defeating the Vermont Tech Knights 110-109 in a double-overtime thriller. 

NHTI trailed in both overtime periods by seven points but found a way to fight back both times. 

With 22 seconds on the clock, the Knights advanced over midcourt when Chance Cole drove to the bucket, but seemingly losing control of the ball. YSCC Tournament Outstanding Offensive Player Jeremiah Shaw collected the loose ball and laid it in to give Vermont Tech a one-point lead.  

Wasting no time, J'Quavious Thurmond (Monticello, GA) drove the length of the court and finished a tough layup to give the Lynx the one-point lead. Tech advanced quickly, getting the ball to Shaw for a possible game-winning three. Shaw got a great look, but the bounced off the cylinder, giving the Lynx the stunning double-overtime win. 

Thurmond ended the game with 29 points (12-30 FG, 3-4 3-FG, 2-7 FT), 16 rebounds, and four assists. Nassir Coleman (Philadelphia, PA) added a monster game himself with 25 points (12-21 FG, 0-1 3-FG, 1-2 FT), 22 rebounds and three blocks. Sean Riley (Washington, DC) contributed 18 points (5-10 FG, 2-5 3-FG, 6-7 FT) and six rebounds, while Shaquille Barrett (Houston, TX), Tournament Oustanding Defensive Player, added 13 points (5-9 FG, 1-2 3-FG, 2-4 FT) including a clutch three-pointer. 

Vermont Tech's Shaw finished with 24 points and six rebounds. Cole led all scorers with 31 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.

NHTI Coach Paul Hogan had high praise for his team.

"We showed a lot of heart," said Hogan. "We would not go away."

The Lynx won their third-consecutive YSCC Championship.
