Durrani Scores Golden Goal In SeaWolves’ 2OT Win

UNITY, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team returned home with a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) double overtime win over the Rams of Unity College on Thursday, Oct. 5.

Entering play the Rams were undefeated at home and ranked second in the conference in goals against average (GAA) (2.17). As advertised, this game would prove to be a defensive battle and 90 minutes of regulation ended in a 0-0 lock.

It wasn't until the second extra-time period when SMCC first-year Samuel Marshall (Eliot, Maine) delivered a corner kick that found the head of junior Jamal Durrani (Lebanon, Maine) for the captain's first goal and the SeaWolves' first road victory of 2017.

SMCC goalkeeper Patrick Duddy (Sedgwick, Maine) pitched his second clean sheet of the season notching three saves.

In a post-game interview, Head Coach Brian Dougher commented, "This was an exciting win for our program. The goal has been to win our remaining conference schedule—one game at a time. Today we took care of business with a fantastic effort from Jamal and the rest of our defense."

SMCC improves to 2-4 in YSCC play, 2-6-1 overall. Unity ranks third in the conference standings sporting a 4-2-1 YSCC record, 5-4-1 overall.

The SeaWolves are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 11 when they play at Quincy College in a non-conference match under the lights beginning at 7 p.m.
