College Of Saint Joseph’s edges NHTI for YSCC Championship

CONCORD-N.H. – The College of Saint Joseph's topped NHTI, 2-0 in the Yankee Small College Conference Championship Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Saints scored the games only runs in the fifth inning on a wild pitch that scored Jacqueline Rossi and a sacrifice fly by Emily Johnson (Wynantskill, N.Y.) to score Allison Hinton (Barre, Vt.) a pitch later. St. Joe's pitcher Maggie Miller (Castleton, N.Y.) scattered three hits while striking out a pair for a complete game shutout.

Hannah Siedner (Pembroke, N.H.) and Emma Gagnon (Pembroke, N.H.) tallied a hit each for the Lynx in the loss. Seidner pitched in relief, pitching 2 1/3 innings not allowing a run.

Miller's efforts in the circle earned her the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Johnson earned the Offensive Player if the Tournament for the RBI and NHTI's Kate Andritz (Stark, N.H.) took home the Defensive Player of the Tournament with solid play at third and shortstop.

The Fighting Spirit topped Southern Maine Community College, 4-0 earlier in the day to advance to the finals against NHTI. Miller gave up three hits and six strikeouts in a complete game shutout. Johnson recorded a hit and scored in the win.
 
SMCC finished the season with a 4-23 record.                                                                                 
Saint Joe's (23-14) and NHTI (24-2) head to Akron Ohio May 15th for the United States Collegiate Athletic Conference's National Championships. The Lynx are the third seed and the Fighting Saints are the fifth seed in the national tourney.
