SeaWolves Phili-Bop Warriors in Home Opener

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team swept the Warriors from Massasoit Community College in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 7.

Game 1: W, 11-0 (5 Innings)
Sophomore Kristen Mackenzie (Seabrook, N.H.) took the circle for the Wolves in game one of the matinee going the distance allowing just one baserunner on a single to center in the second inning. The right-hander struck out four facing just 16 batters in total.

The SeaWolves were hot from the start when sophomore Kahli Philibotte (Hooksett, N.H.) clobbered a two-run homer over the left field fence to give the home team a 3-0 advantage in the first.

SMCC piled on five more runs on six hits in the third inning to take a commanding 9-0 lead, featuring a Philibotte triple to score first-year Sara Ring (Wells, Maine). Ring helped the SeaWolves tack on two more in the fourth inning by serving a RBI-double to center as part of 3-3 from the plate.

Mackenzie earned her fourth win of the season in a complete game shutout; Massasoit's Mallory Fey suffered the loss.

Game 2: W, 8-0 (5 Innings)
Sophomore Sarah Guimond (East Waterboro, Maine) earned the start in part two of the SeaWolves' home opener matching Mackenzie's performance with 5.0 innings of one-hit softball.

With one out in the third inning, SMCC pushed across four runs on back-to-back 2-RBI doubles by Philibotte and Guimond. Next inning, the SeaWolves manufactured four more runs on two hits to extend their lead 8-0.

Guimond allowed her first and only hit with two outs in the top half of the fifth before logging her third win of the season. Massasoit's Jazmyn Conrad was victim to the loss.

SMCC improves to 8-8 overall and will open Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) play on Sunday, Apr. 8 vs. the College of St. Joseph (Vt.) in South Portland at 12 and 2 p.m. LIVE STATS: http://www.gosmccseawolves.com/sports/sball/2017-18/boxscores/20180408_t2hj.xml
