Plummer scores 37 as UMA heads to Final Four

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine - University of Maine at Augusta freshman Jamie Plummer scored a game-high 37 points and grabbed 21 rebounds as the UMA defeated the University of Maine at Machias 88-76 in the opening round of the Yankee Small College Conference Elite 8 Tournament on Thursday afternoon.

UMA advances to face the winner of tonight's match-up between second seeded Southern Maine Community College and seventh seeded NHTI.

The Clippers were led by Vanessa Patterson who scored 21 points, while teammates Randi deWitt and Emma LeGallais scored 18 and 16 points respectively. Breanna Nicely also hit double digits for Machias, with ten points and a team-high 13 rebounds.

The Moose were led by Plummer, and fellow freshman Courtney Jicks who nailed four three pointers in scoring 18 points while grabbing ten rebounds and dishing out eight assists. Sophomore Arreonte Lee was also in double-digits for the Moose with 13 points.

The Clippers jumped out to the early 9-2 lead, in a game that included 20 lead changes and seven ties. UMA answered with a 10-2 run of their own over the next four minutes, highlighted by five points from Plummer. The two teams traded baskets over the remainder of the first half, with the Moose taking a 44-41 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, Plummer and Jicks combined for nine of the next 11 points as UMA added to a lead they would never relinquish. Despite leading by as many as 17 points in the second half, the Clippers clawed their way back, led by 11 points from Patterson over the next five minutes.

Machias was plagued by foul trouble in the remaining few minutes of play, as Patterson, LeGallais and Kristi Wright each fouled out.
