First seed CMCC defeats Unity; will face VTC

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Top seeded Central Maine Community College advanced to the Yankee Small College Conference Final Four in convincing fashion Thursday night, defeating eight seeded Unity 87-53 at Southern Maine Community College.

CMCC will tip-off against Vermont Tech College, who earlier defeated St. Joseph's College of Vermont, Saturday at noon.

Eleven different players scored for the Mustangs, with Susie French leading the way with 14 points and nine rebounds. Jasmine Ramos netted the only double-double for head coach Andrew Morong's team, as she scored 13 points and grabbed ten rebounds. Maggie McConkey and Samantha Bruce each scored ten points, while Laura pulled down a team-high 13 rebounds. CMCC had 27 assists on the night, led by McConkey who had nine, and, as a team, out-rebounded the Rams 58-36.

Unity was led by Ashley Moeller, who scored a game-high 20 points, including a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line. YSCC rebounding leader Candace Robinson grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds for the Rams while scoring ten points. Sierra Marchacos also hit double-digits, scoring ten points.
