Lynx and Knights Battle it out in YSCC Elite 8 Nightcap

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (YSCC) -- South Portland Me – The sixth seeded Vermont Tech Knights and the third seeded NHTI Lynx took to the court in the final game of Thursday's YSCC Elite 8 quarter final action. The game proved to be competitive as the Knights rebounded from ten point deficits throughout the game.

At the end of the first quarter the Lynx held three-point lead (18-15). The second quarter would start out rough for both squads as their offenses couldn't find their groves. NHTI would start to expand on their lead, hwever VT Tech would respond managing to stay within striking distance to the Lynx as he first half closed out. The Lynx would hold a seven-point lead (29-22) at intermission.

Again, the third quarter started out rough for both offenses as neither team would find the bottom of the net for the first few opening minutes. NHTI would start to build on their lead

trying to gain some distance from the Knights, and again the Knights would respond cutting into the Lynx's lead, trailing at the end of three quarters (46-38).

The final ten-minutes of play saw the Lynx build on the eight-point lead forcing the Knight's to up their offensive execution pulling within a handful of points. As the final quarter wound down the Knights were unable to draw any closer than 10-points as both teams traded baskets. The final horn ended with the Lynx winning their quarter final opener 62-54.

The Lynx were led by Marissa Martel who scored a game high 31-points, as Riselly Deoleo found the net for 16. On the Knight's side of the court Paige Wells connected for 19 points as Kiana Royer posted 15.

The Lynx will play SMCC in the 2pm semi-final game on Saturday.
