UMFK women edge UMA in nail-biter

FORT KENT, Maine (UMA) —The University of Maine at Augusta traveled to Fort Kent, ME over the weekend to take on the Bengals from the University of Maine at Fort Kent.  While travel could have easily slowed the Moose at the start of the game, they sprung off to an early 23-16 lead over Fort Kent in the first quarter.  Junior Caitlin LaFountain netted a quick 8 points and 7 boards in one quarter of action, which forced the Bengals to add more pressure in the paint.

The Moose found an answer with strong parimeter shooting from Senior co-captain, Carment Bragg, Sophomore Dominique Lewis, and Freshman Sidney Moore; each connecting from beyond the arc.  With a strong inside-out game, the Moose found themselves up 46- 34 at the half.

The Bengals came out roaring in the third capitalizing on strong parmieter shooting from Bianca Guiterrez who had 6 of her 10 points in the quarter from long range.  The Moose continued to dig and found a strong quarter from LaFountain who wrestled 9 points inside.  While the Bengals surged in the second half, the Moose fought tooth and nail until the last remaining seconds to pull out a 74-72 win.

LaFountain finished with 23 points and 16 rebounds; while Lewis pitched in 18 points and 11 rebounds.  Leading the Bengals was Bianca Gutierrez with 23 points.

The Moose are back in action on Saturday, November 18th when they face off against YSCC opponent Paul Smith's College in Lake Placid, NY.
