Lady SeaWolves Get Production From New-Look Starting Five

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team rolled to a 86-24 Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) win over Hampshire College at the Hutchinson Union Building on Friday, Dec. 8.

The Lady SeaWolves saw production from a new-look starting five led by first-year Julianna Lafrenaye(Nobleboro, Maine) who connected for a career high 25 points on 58 percent shooting in front of the home crowd.

Also getting big minutes were first-years Morgan Rice (Westbrook, Maine) and Lauryn Fagan (Standish, Maine) who combined for 31 points. Junior guard Amanda Matos (Orlando, Fl.) put together her first SMCC double-double with 11 points and 12 boards while first-year Priscila Berdeja (Acapulco, Mexico) contributed on the defensive end with 10 steals and seven boards.

Hampshire's Lena Trieger (Chicago, Ill.) netted a double-double in leading her team with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Trieger continues to lead the conference in rebounding averaging 14.4 per game.

SMCC posted a season high 86 points and allowed a season low 24, leading for the duration of the contest.

Winners of three straight, the Lady SeaWolves improve to 6-1 in YSCC action, 8-3 overall. Hampshire remains winless in the conference standings at 0-9.

Next up for SMCC is Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, a non-conference game on Saturday, Dec. 9. Tip off from The HUB is set for 1 p.m.
