Lady SeaWolves Topple Central Maine

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (SMCC) — The Southern Maine Community College women's soccer team defeated the Mustangs of Central Maine Community College (CMCC) 6-2 in a non-conference match on Sunday, Sept. 11 at Wainwright. This game was one of an eight-game slate as part of the "City of South Portland Soccer Day."

SMCC took a 1-0 advantage in the 11th minute when first-year Samantha Munson (South Portland, Maine) curved a corner kick by the opposing goal keeper. CMCC evened the score before the half slotting a through ball to Megan Duval who finished into the side netting.

The game was knotted at 1-1 until the SMCC Captain Hannah Fields (Shapleigh, Maine) dribbled out of the midfield and scored twice in a two-minute span to put her team back on top. Sophomore Madelyn Wade (Brunswick, Maine) netted two more and first-year Madison Simms (Naples, Maine) connected from 18 yards to give the Lady SeaWolves a commanding lead and eventually the 6-2 victory.

SMCC's Wade now ranks second in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) in goals scored (7) and third in total points (15). Fields is close behind with five goals and 12 total points.

The Lady SeaWolves improve to 2-1 overall, having yet to play a conference match.

The action continues when the Lady SeaWolves travel to Warwick, R.I. to face the Community College of Rhode Island in a non-conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 14. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
