Maine Machias shuts out SMCC

MACHIAS, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College women's soccer team suffered its first Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) loss on Saturday, Sept. 17 to the Clippers of the University of Maine- Machias 2-0.

Machias scored once at the 34 minute mark, a goal by Emma Parker. The Lady SeaWolves pushed the tempo in search for an equalizer but were unable to slide one by the Clipper goal keeper having opportunities inside the box. Sarah Klein would score again for Machias in the final minute of the game to seal the victory for her team and improve to 2-1 in YSCC play. 

SMCC tallied 10 shots-on-goal, four by first-year Madison Simms (Naples, Maine) and another three by first-year Samantha Munson (South Portland, Maine).

SMCC's goal keeper Kaylah Abdul faced 12 shots-on-goal and recorded 10 saves.

The Lady SeaWolves are now 0-1 in conference standings and 2-3 overall. 

The action continues when SMCC plays host to the Mustangs of Central Maine Community College at Wainwright Field on Wednesday, Sept. 21 for another YSCC showdown. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
