Lady SeaWolves Earn First YSCC Win

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine.— The Southern Maine Community College women's soccer team earned their first Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) victory Wednesday, Sept. 21 in its 10-1 rout of Central Maine Community College.

First-year Madison Simms (Naples, Maine) put SMCC in front 1-0 in the seventh minute of the match and the Lady SeaWolves did not look back. Sophomore Hannah Fields (Shapleigh, Maine) rattled off the next three consecutive goals; the captain would finish with four goals and three assists.

The goal of the match was courtesy of first-year Samantha Munson (South Portland, Maine) who finished a one-time blast over the head of the Mustang goal keeper. Munson finished with a hat trick, and sophomore Madelyn Wade (Brunswick, Maine) and first-year Taylor Currier (Naples, Maine) contributed with a goal apiece.

First-year goal keeper Kaylah Abdul notched four saves in the victory. SMCC improves to 1-1 in conference play and 3-3 overall.

Fields, with an 11-point performance in the match, recorded her 50th career point and tied SMCC Hall of Famer Kelly Maloney for second all-time in this category. Fields is also tied for first in the conference in goals (9), followed by Wade who ranks second (8).
