Rams Edge Lady SeaWolves in Weekend Clash

UNITY, Maine.— The Southern Maine Community College women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to the Rams of Unity College in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) showdown on Saturday, Sept. 24.

SMCC had all the momentum in the early stages of the match going up 1-0 on a blast from sophomore Hannah Fields (Shapleigh, Maine) at the 23-minute mark. However, the Rams would get even before the half expired courtesy of Zoe Picanso.

The difference in the game came at the 60th minute when Unity's Devon Funt converted a penalty kick to put the home team up 2-1. On the attack, SMCC was unable to penetrate the steady Rams defense and come up with the big play.

First-year goal keeper Kaylah Abdul notched six saves on eight shot attempts.

SMCC now stands at 1-2 in conference play and 3-4 overall.

In scoring her 10th goal of the season, Fields moved into sole possession of second place in career points in program history. Fields has totaled 52 points, 25 thus far in her 2016 campaign. With four regular season games remaining, she needs just five points to claim first place.
