Offense Powers Vital Road Win

AUBURN, Maine.— The Southern Maine Community College women's soccer team earned its second Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) victory against the Mustangs of Central Maine Community College on Tuesday, Oct. 4 by a score of 3-2.

The Lady SeaWolves were powered by three goals, two in the first half and one in the second. SophomoreHannah Fields (Shapleigh, Maine) gave SMCC the advantage at the 25-minute mark, a lead her team wouldn't surrender. This goal was Fields' 11^th of the season, leaving her three points shy of becoming the all-time points leader in program history with two regular season games remaining.

First-year Samantha Munson (South Portland, Maine) netted her sixth goal of the season six minutes later to double SMCC's lead. The Mustangs would get one back before the half expired on a goal by Megan Duval.

First-year Madison Simms (Naples, Maine) led off the scoring in the second half with her third cap of the season in the 67^th minute which proved to be the game winner. Central Maine scored in the final minute of the match, but to no avail as the Lady SeaWolves hung on to secure their first road win of the season. SMCC improves to 2-3 in YSCC play, and 4-5 overall.

Sophomore Emily Harris (Dayton, Maine) notched her first win as a goal keeper, recording five saves on seven shot attempts.

The action continues on Saturday, Oct. 8 when the Lady SeaWolves play host to North Divisional leader Unity College (4-0) in another YSCC showdown. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Before the match, SMCC Athletics will recognize those student-athletes who plan to graduate from their program this academic year or who are planning to transfer to another institution.
