Clippers Edge Lady SeaWolves for YSCC Post-Season Berth

MACHIAS, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College women's soccer team suffered a 3-2 loss in its Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) North Division play-in game against the University of Maine- Machias on Monday, Oct. 17.

The Lady Clippers jumped on the scoreboard near the end of the first half on a goal delivered by Hailey Wegner. SMCC and Lillian LaRochelle would find the equalizer coming out in the second half pushing its attack tempo in the 56th minute.

Machias again regained its lead at the 61-minute mark, but the Lady SeaWolves refused to surrender. SophomoreMadelyn Wade (Brunswick, Maine) delivered another game-tying goal, her 10th of the season, five minutes later to even the score at 2-2. With 10 minutes remaining, Machias' Wegner scored her second cap of the game and secured the 3-2 win for the home team.

Emily Harris (Dayton, Maine) and Sophia Zidow (Scarborough, Maine) both saw time inside the goal mouth and recorded a collective four saves on seven shot attempts.

The Lady SeaWolves round out their 2016 season at 2-4 in conference play, and 4-8 overall.
