NHTI and Unity College Advance to the YSCC Finals

CONCORD, N.H. (NHTI) -– The Lynx women's soccer team took advantage of the home field and shut out the University of Maine-Machias, 9-0 in a Yankee Small College Conference semifinal match Saturday. YSCC's south division's Player of the Year Shannon Hart (Swanzey, N.H.) continued her conference dominance with four goals and an assist in the win. 

Hart wasted no time scoring her first goal 48 seconds into the opening half. The sophomore then assisted on the second goal scored byChelsea Barnes (Wilton, N.H.) 29 seconds later. Danielle Wiley (Penacook, N.H.) added the third goal on a penalty kick, Hart scored the next two and Stefani Gauthier (Pittsfield, N.H.) scored the sixth and final first half goal. 

Second half goals were scored by Jelasa Nelson (Northwood, N.H.), Hart, and Hannah Lacroix (Alton, N.H.). 

NHTI improves to 14-1 and will host Unity Sunday at 11:45 for the YSCC championship. UMaine-Machias finish the season 7-7-1. 

Game 2: Unity College advances past Hampshire College, 3-0 in the other YSCC semifinal Saturday afternoon. Freshman Samantha Jalkowski (Delanco, N.J.) netted a hat trick for the Rams. All three goals came in the second half of the contest.  Unity keeper Sarah Cantwell (Stoneham, Mass.) turned away three Hampshire shots to earn the shutout. 

The Rams improve to 6-3-1 and will take on host NHTI Sunday at 11:45 a.m. The Black Sheep finish the season at 4-5-1.
