Albany Downs Lady SeaWolves 4-0

ALBANY, N.Y. (SMCC) — Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer was defeated 4-0 by the Panthers of Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) in a non-conference match on Saturday, Sept. 2.

ACPHS opened scoring and netted its first goal of the season on a set piece that would get behind the SMCC defense and find junior forward Erin Tersegno who slotted it by first-year goalkeeper Shae Couture (Rochester, N.H.). Tersegno scored her second of the game out of the halftime whistle to double the Panther lead.

Fellow junior forward Katie Benson also put on a two-goal performance finishing at 50:41 and again 15 minutes later to give her team the 4-0 advantage.

SMCC first-years Callie O'Brien (South Portland, Maine) and Jessica Haskell (Saco, Maine) both recorded two shots on goal but were unable to beat Panther goalkeeper Sally Slowinski who notched seven saves on the afternoon to move ACPHS to 1-0 overall.

Couture faced 19 shots on goal to tally 15 saves. Despite her outstanding showing, SMCC falls to 0-2 overall.

The SeaWolves will look to solve their two-game skid in their home opener against Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC)-opponent College of St. Joseph (V.T.) at Wainwright Recreation Complex on Saturday, Sept. 9. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
