Lady SeaWolves Topple CSJ With Offensive Outburst

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine.— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team unleashed 10 goals on the Fighting Saints of the College of St. Joseph (Vt.) on Saturday, Sept. 9 in route to its first Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) win of the season.

First-year Jessica Haskell (Saco, Maine) netted the SeaWolves' first goal of the season by way of a penalty kick to give the home team an early 1-0 advantage. Haskell tallied a hat trick and first-years Grace MacDougall (Standish, Maine) and Callie O'Brien (South Portland, Maine) each added a goal to give SMCC a commanding 5-0 lead before the half.

Haskell finished with four goals and an assist in the SeaWolves' offensive outbreak. MacDougall and O'Brien would find the back of the net again in the second half before first-year Haley Fletcher (Monmouth, Maine) recorded her first collegiate goal and sophomore Samantha Munson (South Portland, Maine) joined in with her first cap of the season.

The Lady SeaWolves improve to 1-0 in YSCC play, 1-2 overall. The Fighting Saints begin their season 0-1 unable to create chances in the attacking third against a stifling SMCC defense.

The action continues when SMCC travels to Central Maine Community College to face the 2-0 Mustangs in another YSCC showdown on Wednesday, September 13. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in Auburn, Maine.
