NHTI defeats Unity to win 2017 YSCC Women's Soccer Championship

CONCORD, N.H. – The NHTI women’s soccer team blanked Unity College, 2-0 in the Yankee Small College Conference championship game Sunday morning.

The Lynx tallied a pair of first half goals to secure the victory. The first goal came in the 12th minute when freshman Piper Cote (Concord, N.H.) found classmate Mary Grzanna (Sunapee, N.H.) on a pass in the middle. Grzanna collected the pass and buried it in one motion for the goal.

The Lynx added the second goal in the 19th minute on a Lexy Freire (Londonderry, N.H.) goal to secure the win.

The Lynx outshot the Rams 20- 4 on the day. Lynx keeper Tess Witmer (Warner, N.H.) only needed to make two saves for the shutout.

NHTI Freshman Maura Hart earned MVP of the tournament and sophomore Fallyn Mele (Raymond, N.H.) was named Defensive Player of the Tournament. Rams senior Devon Funt (Pipersville, Pa.) was named Offensive Player of the Tournament.

The Lynx earn a spot in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association's  national tournament in Virginia Beach November 10.
