O’Brien Nets Both, SeaWolves Log Fifth Shutout

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team logged its second shutout of the season in a 2-0 victory over the Knights from the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) in a non-conference game on Saturday, Sept. 29.

Sophomore Callie O'Brien (South Portland, Maine) put her team on the board 10 minutes into action, blasting a 20-yarder side netting. It was O'Brien again four minutes later, this time from junior Jessica Haskell (Saco, Maine) to put the home team ahead by two scores.

The SMCC defense managed to hang on for a scoreless second half and log its fifth shutout of the season. First-year goalkeeper Dana Sirois (Saco, Maine) made four saves to improve on her 0.57 goals against average and .862 save percentage.

O'Brien has scored 14 goals this season and recorded three assists, good for 31 points through seven games—she leads the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) and United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), both Div. 1 and 2, in both categories. O'Brien's next goal will make her the all-time leader in SMCC women's soccer program history.

The result pushes SMCC to 7-0 overall; CCRI slips back to .500 at 2-2 thus far.
