Augusta's Jennifer Laney named USCAA Garth Pleasant Honorary Athletic Director of the Year

NORFOLK, VA (USCAA) – University of Maine Augusta's Athletic Director, Jennifer Laney, has been named the 2019-2020 USCAA Garth Pleasant Honorary Athletic Director of the Year. Laney was a critical part of the strategic planning committee during the 2019 convention and throughout the year working with the National Office and Board of Directors.  She will receive an award for her contributions to the overall state of the USCAA and its continued growth and development.

During her six years at UMA she has her teams make seven different trips to a USCAA National Championship event and award three student-athletes of the year. On her campus she has grown the number of sports offered on campus to include men's and women's track, an emerging sport in the USCAA. During her time as head coach of the women's basketball team she cultivated a culture that is now wide-spread across the whole athletic department.

"There is no one more deserving in the association this year. Jennifer's leadership, work ethic, and dedication to the USCAA have been exemplary as she has lead the strategic planning committee" states Matthew Simms, Executive Director of the USCAA.

"The service and dedication Jen Laney has provided for UMA, the YSCC, and the USCAA has been outstanding," said Yankee Small College Conference President Matt Richards. "Working alongside her I have been witness to her efforts of leadership that has continued the professionalism and growth these organizations have benefited from. The award bestowed to her by the USCAA with the recognition of the Garth Pleasent Athletic Director of the Year is extremely deserving. "

The USCAA's Garth Pleasant Honorary Athletic Director of the Year award is an annual award bestowed upon an Athletic Director in the association who has made positive and meaningful contributions to their institution and the USCAA. The award is presented each year during the USCAA National Convention.
