YSCC Announces 2022-23 Basketball All-Conference Honors

(YSCC) – The Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) announced its regular season award winners on Friday, March 3rd, 2023. Awards include Men's and Women's, Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, All-YSCC First and Second Teams, and YSCC Regular Season Champions. 

Women's Awards:

Women's Regular Season Champion, Central Maine CC Mustangs:

Coming off a USCAA National Championship, the stakes were high for the Mustangs entering the season, and they did not disappoint. They completed a perfect 14-0 regular season in YSCC play. They finished first in the YSCC in numerous statistical categories, including points per game with 77.2 and assists per game with 20.3 per contest.

Women's Player of the Year: Maddy York, Southern Maine CC Seawolves

Maddy York was a major contributor to the success of the Seawolves this season, finishing second in the YSCC in scoring with 16.0 points per game. York also led the Seawolves in 3PT percentage, shooting the long ball at an efficient 35.8 Percent. She scored a season-high 39 points, including 11 made three-pointers on February 8th. 

Women's Coach of the Year: Brad Rideout, Paul Smith's Bobcats

Brad Rideout of Paul Smith's takes home the YSCC Women's Coach of the Year honor. He coached the Bobcats to a 14-10 overall record. Rideout's squad held opponents to just 21.7 percent shooting from beyond the arc, the best in the YSCC. 

Women's First-Team All-YSCC:

Maddy York, Southern Maine CC Seawolves

No surprise here as we see the YSCC Women's Player of the Year, Maddy York join the YSCC First Team. She averaged 16 points and 3.5 rebounds in just 21.1 minutes per game. 

Jordan Louis, Paul Smith's College Bobcats

Jordan Louis finished fourth in the YSCC in scoring as she tallied an impressive 14.9 points per game. She also played a vital role as a facilitator for the Bobcats, finishing third in the conference with 5.3 assists per contest. 

Emily Strachan, Central Maine CC Mustangs

The leader of the number 1 seeded Mustangs lands herself on the YSCC First Team. She finished fifth in scoring average for the YSCC, with 14.1 points per game. Strachan brings intensity on both sides of the court. She led the YSCC in total steals with 88 on the season. 

Ashleigh Mathisen, Southern Maine CC Seawolves

Mathisen joins the YSCC First Team after a stellar season with the Seawolves. She finished third in the YSCC in total points with 343. Her consistent, well-rounded play was a significant factor in SMCC's success. She played and started in all 26 games this season. 

Alisyn Alley, Me.-Augusta Moose

This season, a durable, all-around contributor for the Moose rounds out our YSCC First Team. Alley started all 26 games for UMA and led the YSCC in total minutes, total assists per game, and free throw percentage. She finished with an impressive stat line of 13.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game.

Women's Second-Team All-YSCC:

Mary Paradis, Great Bay C.C. Herons

Paradis' All-YSCC selection should come as no surprise. She led the YSCC in points per game, averaging 22.3 points. She was a major contributor on the glass as well, collecting 8.3 rebounds per game, good for eighth in the YSCC. 

Luna Love, Central Maine CC Mustangs

The Mustangs earn themselves another All-YSCC selection. Love was a key contributor to the top-seeded CMCC. Her ability to space the floor was key to the team's success. She shot the long ball at an impressive 31.3 percent, good for sixth in the YSCC.

Jayla Gray, Paul Smith's College Bobcats

The double-double machine Jayla Gray makes her way onto the All-YSCC Second Team. Gray averaged 11.6 points and 11.7 rebounds per contest. She finished first in the conference in total offensive rebounds with 132 and second in total rebounds with 269. 

Madison Lovely, Great Bay C.C. Herons

Another double-double machine and the YSCC leader in rebounds per game, she finds her way onto the YSCC Second Team. Lovely averaged an impressive 19.5 rebounds per game and contributed 13.1 points per game. 

Kali Thompson, Central Maine CC Mustangs

Our All-YSCC Second Team is rounded out by another Mustang, Kali Thompson. She was an all-around contributor for the Mustangs, turning in averages of 7.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. She successfully crashed the offensive glass, finishing fourth in the YSCC for total offensive rebounds with 96. 

Men's Awards:

Men's Regular Season Champion, Central Maine CC Mustangs:

The Mustangs of Central Maine CC clicked on all cylinders this year and are your YSCC Regular Season Champions. The Mustangs finished 11-3 in YSCC play and led the conference in defensive rebounds per game and rebound margin. 

Men's Player of the Year: Jaylon Calvin, Vermont Tech Knights

Jaylon Calvin takes home the Men's YSCC Player of the Year. Perhaps the best all-around player in the YSCC this season, Calvin earns the top individual honor. He led the league in points per game with 17.0 and total steals with 86. He added 8.3 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game. He finished fourth in the YSCC with an incredible 3PT percentage of 40.2. He led the Knights in points, rebounds and assists per game. 

Men's Coach of the Year: Irv Harris, NHTI Lynx

Our YSCC Men's Coach of the Year goes to Irv Harris of NHTI. Harris was named the Head Coach of the Lynx Men's Basketball team this past year after the legendary Paul Hogan decided to hang up his coaching hat. Harris stepped in and led NHTI to the number 2 seed in the YSCC, finishing with an 11-3 record in conference play. 

Men's First-Team All-YSCC:

Jaylon Calvin, Vermont Tech Knights

No surprise here as we see the YSCC Men's Player of the Year, Jaylon Calvin, join the YSCC First Team. He averaged 17 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game.

Boston Caldwell, Central Maine CC Mustangs

The leading scorer on the number 1 seeded Mustangs makes his way onto the All-YSCC First Team. Caldwell finished eighth in scoring average for the conference with 15.8 points per game. He added 4.5 rebounds per game and shot with great efficiency. He finished eighth in the YSCC for FG percentage and second in 3PT percentage. 

Jack Pyzynski, Southern Maine CC Seawolves

The Seawolves team leader in points and assists per game earns himself a spot on the All-YSCC First Team. Pyzynski averaged 16.4 points per game while shooting 34.2 percent from 3PT land. He also finished with 40 steals on the season, good for sixth in the YSCC.

Trevor Beals, Me.-Augusta Moose

Beals was crucial to the success of UMA this season, landing himself on our All-YSCC First Team. An incredibly well-rounded player, he finished fourth in the YSCC in rebounds per game as he tallied 9.7 per contest. He also contributed offensively, coming in at ninth in the YSCC in scoring, averaging 15.7 per game. 

Anthony Henson, Paul Smith's College Bobcats

Rounding out the Men's All-YSCC First Team is YSCC scoring leader Anthony Henson. He tallied 21.8 points per game, shooting nearly 45 percent from the field and 37.4 percent from behind the arc. Henson had 14 games in which he tallied 21 or more points. 

Men's Second-Team All-YSCC:

Theodore Wolfe, Great Bay C.C. Herons

The Herons leading rebounder takes the first spot on our All-YSCC Second Team. Wolfe collected 12.3 rebounds per game, the second-highest in the YSCC. He contributed 15.7 points per game on an efficient 53.1 field goal percentage. 

Kingsley Breen, Great Bay C.C. Herons

Another Heron finds himself a spot on the All-YSCC Second Team. Breen joined the Herons this year and made an immediate impact. He scored 25 points in his debut and would lead Great Bay in scoring with 16.5 per game, also good for sixth in the YSCC. 

Brett Richards, Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Panthers

The leading rebounder in the YSCC finds himself on the All-YSCC Second Team. Richards averaged 12.6 rebounds per game and was second in the YSCC in points per game with 19.9 per contest. He was also the conference leader in field goal percentage at 62.5 percent.

Anthony Gauthier, NHTI Lynx

NHTI's leading scorer makes his way onto the All-YSCC Second Team. Gauthier's well-rounded play was vital to NHTI's 11-3 conference record. He averaged 13.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. 

Sean Riley, NHTI Lynx

Rounding out our All-YSCC Second Team is NHTI guard Sean Riley. He started all 17 games he played, averaging 12.1 points while shooting 36.0 percent from behind the arc. Riley led the Lynx in minutes per game with 29.2.
