
MEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEAT MUSTANGS TO ADVANCE TO CHAMPIONSHIP
South Portland, Me: The Vermont State Randolph Men's Basketball team took on the Central Maine CC in the semifinals of the Yankee Conference for a chance to advance to the championship game. VTSU- Randolph's start wasn't pretty but a big second half by Calvin and big game by Tyler Allen led the Knights to a 71-67 win over the Mustangs.
The Knights started off slow in the first half shooting only 40% from the field and 28% from the charity stripe. The Knights defense kept them afloat as they held the Mustangs to 29 points for the half but still found themselves down 2. Tyler Allen kept the Knights in the game with 10 first half points. In the second half, Calvin caught fire scoring 10 straight points to give the Knights lead the lead 44-37 with 12 minutes to go. The Knights would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game. The Knights held a 16 point lead with 5 minutes to go before the Mustangs made a furious comeback to cut the lead to 2 with 9 seconds to go. Calvin was able to put the game on ice as the Knights escaped.
The Knights will face Great Bay CC in the conference championship game at 3pm on Sunday.
