Fighting Saints deliver first upset of YSCC Elite 8

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (YSCC) -- In the second game of the YSCC men's semi-final action, the fourth seeded Knights of Vermont Tech took to on the fifth seeded Saints of the College of St Joseph's College of Vermont in what many thought could be the most competitive game of the day.

Vermont Tech jumped at out to a nine – nil lead before the Saints turned over the goose egg on the scoreboard a little more than 4-minutes into the game. From the 16-minute mark on, the Saints chipped away at the Knights lead, finally taking the lead on a Kyle Houston three-pointer with a little less than 10 minutes left.

By the 7:26 mark the Saints had built their biggest lead of the first half 26-17. The Knights of VT Tech responded and started to chipping away at the lead clawing their way back to a one point deficit with 1:23 minute remaining 33-32. A Darrien White three-pointer with a minute to go padded St Joseph's lead by to 4 at the intermission.

The second half opened with VT's Connor Miller draining a three pointer from the top of the key to set the tone for the second half. After four minutes of play the Saint's had built a six-point lead forcing Vermont to chip at find a way to get close again. The Knights would pull to two points at the eleven-minute mark on a Lewis Holey layup.

With the play underneath getting physical the Saints would start another run building 12-point lead with tree-minutes to play. The Knights were unable to mount any last-minute offensive rushes as the Saint's out-scored the Knights 13 – 3, earning their way to the semi-finals with an 85-62 win.

Kareem Brown led the Fighting Saints with 22 points, Antonio Gordon chipped un with 16.

Cam Carter led Vermont Tech with 16.

CSJ will face NHTI on Saturday.
