NHTI Men's Soccer Win Back-to Back YSCC Titles

CONCORD, N.H. – The NHTI men's soccer team edged Vermont Tech, 1-0 in overtime to secure their second consecutive Yankee Small College Conference title Sunday afternoon.

NHTI and the knights battled for 80 scoreless minutes forcing overtime. The Lynx wasted no time in the extra frame pressuring the Knights in the first minute before Blaise Masumbuko (Manchester, N.H.) collected a rebound that found its way behind the keeper who scored in the open net for the game winner.

The Lynx had chances early in the second half to crack the scoreboard but were smothered by the Knights defense or turned away Defensive Player of the Tournament Thomas Ferguson (Deering, N.H.). The VTC keeper was a constant disruption in the box, intercepting passes and punching away most corner kick before a Lynx forward could capitalize.

NHTI's Abdulah Juma (Manchester, N.H.) was named tournament MVP and Bryan Woody earned Offensive Player of the Tournament for his tree goal performance in the semifinal match.

NHTI will head to Virginia Beach a week from Thursday to compete in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association's national championship tournament. Times to be determined.
