SeaWolves Dominate in YSCC Opener

UNITY, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College women's basketball team defeated Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) divisional opponent Unity College 84-23 on Wednesday, Nov. 16. The SeaWolves rolled to their second victory in back-to-back road games to improve to a perfect 6-0 on the season.

Senior forward Jennifer Conrad (Monmouth, Maine) was the game's top scorer with 23. First-year Emily Hogan (Jay, Maine) tallied 13 points and Alicia Ruth (Plaistow, N.H.) added 12. Co-captain Vanese Barnes (Jay, Maine) was effective on both ends of the floor with six assists and six steals and Jennifer Gendron (South Portland, Maine) grabbed a season-high 18 rebounds.

With every player getting on the scoreboard, the SeaWolves' offense topped their game-high point total this season by 18 to pick up their first YSCC win.

Head Coach Katie Bergeron, in reflecting on her team's performance, "It's always a feeling of accomplishment to have back-to-back team wins on the road- everyone contributed in their own ways. I'm proud of this group for executing the plays and for continuing to learn what it takes to win."

The action continues when the SeaWolves play host to the Knights of Vermont Technical College in another YSCC showdown at the HUB Gymnasium on Saturday, Nov. 19. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
