SeaWolves Rout Clippers 65-41

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The nationally ranked #2 Southern Maine Community College women's basketball team defeated the Lady Clippers from the University of Maine at Machias 65-41 in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) contest at the HUB on Saturday, Dec. 3.

First-year Emily Hogan (Jay, Maine) led the way totaling 15 points in the game and made an efficient three of four from downtown. Sophomore guard Jordan Farquharson (Ryegate, Vt.) finished with 12 points followed by first-year Alicia Ruth (Plaistow, N.H.) who added 10. Sophomore Alexis Antonacci (Long Island, N.Y.) was able to get her teammates involved for the open bucket tallying eight assists in the win.

Co-captain Hannah Heald (Union, Maine) opened the first quarter with a lay-up to give her team the lead they would preserve for the game's entirety. The SeaWolves held their opponent to single digits in each of the first three quarters and held a commanding 39-point lead, their largest of the afternoon, in the fourth.

The home team shot 41 percent from the floor and near 36 percent from beyond the arch. The SeaWolves' bench totaled 30 points in support.

Head Coach Katie Bergeron commented, "I was really happy to come out as strong as we did after a tough game just two days ago. Impressively, 10 out of 11 contributed in scoring today. We are constantly seeing new players step-up and tonight it was Emily Hogan with 15! Another great team win routed in discipline and execution!"

In a post-game interview, Antonacci spoke about the team's versatility. She explains, "There's multiple people that will score every night and that's what makes it so difficult to come up with a game plan to slow us down— which is why we're so successful."

The SeaWolves improve to 5-0 in conference play, and stay a perfect 10-0 overall.

The action continues when the SeaWolves play host to the Herons of Great Bay Community College in another YSCC showdown at the HUB on Tuesday, Dec. 5. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
