#1 SeaWolves Roll To 11th Victory

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The nationally ranked #1 Southern Maine Community College women's basketball team continued its quest for perfection in their defeat over the Lady Herons from Great Bay Community College on Tuesday, Dec. 6 in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) contest at the HUB.

First-year Alicia Ruth (Plaistow, N.H.) led all scorers in the game with 16 points, making two from beyond the arch. Reigning YSCC Player of the Week, Jennifer Conrad (Monmouth, Maine) notched her fourth double-double of the season, pouring in 11 points and adding 11 rebounds. First-year Kaylah Abdul (South Berwick, Maine) recorded a season-high five assists to match a team-high 21 assists in the team's 42-point victory.

Getting it done on the defensive end, the SeaWolves have allowed the fewest points among YSCC teams averaging 42.6 points-against over 11 games this season.

In a post-game interview, first-year Emily Hogan (Jay, Maine) spoke about unity and team preparation, "We have great chemistry on and off the floor, and spending a lot of time with each other really makes it easier […] Coach stresses mental toughness, and we've been working on that in practice. Especially with a tough game ahead of us at Central Maine, doing the little things is what is going to help us win."

Head Coach Katie Bergeron commented, "I was proud of the way our team composed themselves throughout the entire game- to score 77 points as a team and only have two girls in double digits shows how deep our bench is. I love this team and their commitment to improving every day!"

The SeaWolves are the first among conference opponents to reach six wins and stand atop the North Division standings. SMCC keeps pace with Central Maine Community College as the only two undefeated teams, both sporting 11-0 records.

The action continues when the SeaWolves play a two-game weekend slate in back-to-back road games, first at Amherst, Mass. against YSCC-opponent Hampshire College on Friday, Dec. 9 and then at Albany, N.Y. to take on Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences on Saturday, Dec. 10.
