SeaWolves Book Date With Central Maine in USCAA Semis

UNIONTOWN, Pa. – The #4 Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team defeated #5 Penn State University Hazleton 85-51 in the quarter-final round of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Tournament on Thursday, Mar. 2.

Senior Jennifer Conrad (Monmouth, Maine) recorded a double-double as part of a season-high 37 points and 18 rebounds. Conrad's dominant performance set new USCAA records for most points as well as field-goals made (14) in a single national tournament game. She also matched the record for three-pointers made shooting 6-12 from beyond the arc.

First-year Kaylah Abdul (South Berwick, Maine) finished with 10 points, adding eight rebounds and five assists. Also contributing in double-digit scoring was first-year Alicia Ruth (Plaistow, N.H.) with 11 and sophomore Emily Keene (Livermore Falls, Maine) with 10.

There were eight ties and four lead changes, all of which were a thing of the first half. Conrad made three consecutive triples coming out in the third quarter as part of a 16-0 run and 30-point quarter for the SeaWolves. Hazleton's Stephanie Guevara tallied 15 points but it wasn't enough to combat SMCC's 41 percent shooting from the floor.

The SeaWolves assisted on 21 of 32 buckets and shot 39.4 percent from three-point land.
