CMCC Women's Soccer Wins YSCC Opener, 1-0

Auburn, ME – Destiny Mooers scored in the 35th minute, and the CMCC women's soccer team held off Paul Smith's College for a 1-0 victory in their first Yankee Small College Conference game of the season. The Mustangs improve to 2-5-1 on the year with the victory, and are unbeaten against USCAA Division 2 opponents.

Neither team created many chances in the game, with Paul Smith's outshooting Central Maine 6-5 and both teams putting three shots on target. The Mustangs took the lead through a combination of players they've seen find each other before.

Lily Caban fed a pass from midfield to the left side of the penalty area for Mooers to run onto. The Hampden Academy product tucked a low, left-footed shot around on-rushing Bobcats goalkeeper Peyton Hoffman. The tally with 11:00 left in the first half was Mooers' fourth goal of the season and Caban's fourth assist of the year, with three of those coming on passes to Mooers, who has scored in three of her last four games.

CMCC controlled the tempo in the second half to see things out for the 1-0 win. Goalkeeper Emma Knowles finished the match with three saves, as the Mustangs kept just their second clean sheet of the campaign.

Central Maine has a bit of a break in its schedule, next taking to the pitch on Tuesday, October 1st when they host UMaine-Augusta for a non-conference game. Kick-off against the Moose is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
