UMaine Machias and Southern Maine CC Advance to YSCC Final

CONCORD, N.H. (NHTI) -– The University of Maine-Machias topped NHTI, 4-2 in a Yankee Small College Conference semifinal Saturdayafternoon. The win advances the Clippers into the conference finals Sunday at 11:00 a.m. on Field One at NHTI. 

UMaine-Machias jumped out to 3-0 lead in the first half on goals scored by Haidar Al-FreihyMaslah Hassan, and Jairo Ulises-Castill before the Lynx found the back of the net just before half on a strike by Tommy Butler (Rochester, N.H.). 

The teams traded goals in the second half. The Clippers scored first when Lorenzo Segura beat the keeper four minutes into the half. Lynx Zach Perault (Litchfield, N.H.) brought cut the deficit to two in the 76th minute but could not manage another scoring opportunity to close out the game. 

The Clippers improve to 11-4 and the Lynx finish their season at 10-6. 

GAME 2: The Southern Maine Community College men's soccer team defeated the Fighting Saints of the College of St. Joseph (Vt.) 2-0 in its Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) semi-final game on Saturday, Oct. 22.

Both teams played to a scoreless first-half until sophomore Brandon Ford (Rochester, N.H.) put his team on the scoreboard at the 71-minute mark. 10 minutes later, co-captain Hugues Bakunda (Lille, France) found the back of the net to double the SeaWolves lead. Douglas Cloutier (Berwick, Maine) orchestrated the attack recording his ninth and 10th assists of the season to secure the 2-0 victory. 

SMCC goal keeper Patrick Duddy (Sedgwick, Maine) notched 17 saves to improve on his conference leading save percentage (.873). 

The SeaWolves are set to face the Clippers of the University of Maine- Machias on Sunday, Oct. 22. To play for the YSCC Championship title. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.
